[HELP] Windsock
Anyone have got a link to a image illustration of windsocks in different wind velocities?
;in other words: how can you tell by a windsock what the wind is? |
Are they not used mainly to give an indication to direction and a rough idea of strength?
I wouldn't know, but it's just what i always assumed lol :O |
Most wind socks indicate up to 20kts I believe. Certainly when the one at our airfield is horizontal, then the wind is >=20kts.
A microsecond Google search: http://www.windsok.com/How%20It%20Wo...20Wind%20Speed |
Windsocks do have windspeed ratings to allow a coarse estimation of windspeed.
Scroggs |
Wind socks have to be fully functional to give a rough estimate. The motor inside the one at our airfied which drives the windsock went tech last week and was giving peculiar wind readings. Beware, just make sure it is fully operational before take off.

Before I get splayed, the above post is a joke. This is what the instructors at my school told the raw recruits and kept them going for ages. Thought it was funny at the time,so I thought I'd share the humour with you.
