Holding patterns

Does anyone have any good tips on getting to grips with the holding patterns?
I heard there was a download that explained holding, VOR,NDB,HSI with diagrams??
Anyone any tips?

Try the RANT software package, this even simulates the dip you get on the RMI. It helped me to learn holds and interpret the needle during the last turn of the hold.

That's a nice explanation, but it perhaps doesn't go far enough for a UK CPL student. You should be able to find the info you need on the CAA's website, or, if not, try Jeppesen or Aerad. Or get hold of an RAF Flight Information Handbook - most airshows, flying clubs etc will have some around.
