What would you do with three months to spare?

Hi,

I have a little dilemma perhaps you can help me with? I have completed all the ground exams, done my hour building and I am ready to start the CPL...or IR

It is possible I could begin my training tomorrow, but the earliest I have a CPL booked is late November. I have been thinking that perhaps I should do my IR at another provider, making the most of these three months and do the CPL at the end of the year.

The thing is, the market up here in Scotland has been very kind to friends of mine and I really don’t want to miss the boat. If I do all my training with the CPL provider as I would really like to, I should be finished around March (with a bit of luck)

I guess I'm looking for some opinions, and this post is to serve as a little warning for those doing the grounds exams. Learn from my mistake and book things early, you can always re schedule but here I am waiting for three months to go with the school I really want. Will it make that much difference? I don’t know, but I do know if I had planned better, I could have my license before the end of the year and not in six months time.

Perhaps some of the more experienced guys would care to comment on how long they guess the upturn may last? Last in first out, so if there is a change around the corner it would be best to get as many hours under our belts as possible asap. Hence my concern.

I look forward to any replies and good luck in it all.

Buster

Shoot man, if you have three months to spare, get on a plane to LA, do all your FAA tickets, get back to the UK and convert the whole shebang. You could have an fATPL by Christmas.....

Interesting

Hi Mate

If i had three months to spare i would get a job and bulid up some spare cash just to assist with loans and any over spend in your flying. If spare cash available i would maybe do an IMC rating as it will assist with the IR or do your IR with another school it doesnt matter where you do these things now i reckon as long as you come out of it all with a CPL and IR/MEP and all 1st time passes you will have no problems.

All the advice i have been given is to get it done as quickly as possible as the market is here now.

Regards

Phil

Get your backside to a reputable school anywhere who can take you now! You could be done by christmas and ready for the charter companies new year rush! No one ever knows how long an upturn lasts but they all say get on it asap!!! I know it's a pain but if that school is away from home it could well be worth it.
