Valid medical and license for the writtens.

I want to do the JAA modular course and I want to know if my FAA ATPL license and medical must be valid before I start the written examinations or must it be valid only when I will take the skills test. I did a search but I could not find the answer to my question. HELP

In my knowledge, all you need is:
-ICAO PPL
-minimum age (18, I think)
-completion of an approved full-time or distance learning course.
Your medical certification could be expired though.
When I did my examination, they just ask your ICAO PLL number and valid passport.

Hope this helps
