Mental arithmetic???

Hi,
does anyone have any thoughts on this i.e. timed-turns etc?

Not sure I understand what your question is exactly, but for timed turns, if you do a rate 1 turn you will do 30 degrees of turn every 10 seconds.

The easy way to calculate the time required for the turn is to put you current heading on the OBS of a VOR. As the OBS shows degrees in multiples of 30, you can easily calculate in your head, the time required for the turn and can see straight away which way to turn (the magnetic compass can tempt you to turn the wrong way).

For calculating ETAs, top of descent, rate of descent on an ILS, crosswind component etc etc, good mental arithmetic is useful.:ok:
