Royal Navy to Airline Pilot
Hi all.
I know of several Airline pilots who were previously in the Royal Navy (NOT aircrew). Could anyone in the know tell me how easy it is to transition from being a Royal Naval officer (eg: engineering or wafare officer) to becoming an airline pilot? Is it an impossible feat to achieve? Thanks Rich |
Hi Rich.
I was a Warfare Branch Officer. Joined Sep 95, left Jan 02. I was a Fighter Controller sub specialist. I did my PPL in California in Jan/Feb 02 and got 100% first time passes for the ATPL Groundschool. I started my CPL course yesterday. So far the plan is going ok! The biggest problem is money, as ever with flying. Would advise you get some saved up like I did when still in 'the mob'. Get in touch if you want some more information. It can be done. |
There is no reason why you should not be able to complete the training, but it will be no easier for you than it is for anyone transitioning from another profession. Where you might have an advantage (if you are still in the Navy) is being able to do some of your training as resettlement, and thus get it paid for by the MoD.
Getting a job is the difficult bit, as a perusal of these forums will testify! Scroggs |
