Possibility of Jump seat rides across the pond
 

Hi happy people. I am flying over to LAX on March 16th 2001 to hopefully become a member of the flying fraternity ... I hope!!!
Flying on Virgin Atlantic.... is there any hope in hell of getting into the Office in the jump seat .... if I ask nicely?
I welcome your thoughts or advice.

I'm sure (that) airline's staff will forward your request to the Captain.

I second that. Did the very same a few years ago on Virgin back from Newark and got the jump seat from Ireland (TOD) all the way back to the gate at Heathrow.

A most enjoyable time and it will re-enforce every reason you have for wanting to fly.

Thanks to Airborne Hamster and Socrates for their advice. I will certainly smile at the lovely ladies as I board ... even maybe pass a note to the Captain explaining my situation. Once again thanks for your response it is appreciated.

That is exactly what I did and on both outward and return journeys I sat jump seat for take off, landing and several hours of that flight - Be understanding though, the pilots do want some time to themselves so be polite and go back to your seat for dinner and the film then return a little later - I cant see them being really mean and saying no! However some are weary because of so-called "Moles" spying on them and telling tales to the press.

Just be realy polite and ask the stewardess when you get on and I'm certain you'll be up there in no time, oh yes, get to the airport early so you are one of the first on the plane so you don't find yourself asking when the cabin crew have a million and one problems and people to sit down.

Follow the advice above, and you'll probably be lucky. However, there are many reasons why a jumpseat may not be possible - training staff on board, jumpseats being used for company pax, all sorts. So don't be too disappointed if they say no - and try again on the way home.

Thanks to everyone who gave me advice .... i will ask nicely and if I do not succeed on the outward flt I will try again on the inbound flt... at least then I can show them my new qualifications!!!!
