Why do you want to become an airline pilot?
 

Why do you want to become an airline pilot? I have lost interest, it is a boring, repetitive job pushing buttons all day long. All airline pilots are self centred as well.

And with whom do you fly for?

My guess is that you dont?

Self centred? Are you talking about every pilot or just yourself? That is if you are a pilot or just a sad willalwaysbea wannabee.

Pretty much any job is repetitve, there's always going to be some things you do every day. Personally I'd rather fly every day than work down a mine or something, but do what makes you happy...!

Flying is a lifestyle, not boring mate!
If it's the cash that keeping you there it mustn't be a passion as it is for the rest of us dedicated aviators.

I am getting really annoyed with people who are flying for the wrong reasons (and it is a minority thank god). The more and more I read Wannabes and R&N the more I see examples of people flying for the wrong reasons. e.g. Money, Prestige, or the "I love the company" mentality.
Call me naive but what ever happened to doing it because YOU LOVE IT!!
If you don't like airline flying then why don't you get involved with smaller aeroplanes, whether it be ferrying, parachute dropping, warbirds etc.

Wind-up. However, flying is not right for everyone, if you think being an airline pilot is boring then you are in the wrong job. Some people balk at the idea of sitting doing nothing for hours on end.......not me though, that's why I went into IT first ;)

Its not the sort of comment that is going to attract a positive response on PPruNe but fair-play to the guy. He's entitled to an opinion especially if he really is an airline pilot.

Somedays I've got back from flying my PA28 and if its gone bad (not that often though) I'll spend the rest of the day cursing the Wright brothers for ever inventing this thing....

However I agree it ain't the sort of thing that should be posted on the wannabe's forum.

One of the nicest reasons that i have been told whilst i was dooing my IR was ' i want a job whrer i get to see the sun every day...'

Everyone is entitled to their own personal feelings but this is a bad place to put those feelings. Why haysoo felt bored and un-interested is beyond the comprehension of most people here.

If you've been flying for years FAIR CALL - I guess you would find it boring after a while - but back when you first began would you care if someone said that to you? No? Well thats why I (and I guess a few others) are not moved by what you say.
(If you havnt been flying at all however - I agree - dont comment).

Why do I want to become an airline pilot ?

Its a combination of feelings and rational human control over a very complex machine in a complex environment (operations, weather and passengers). Hey, this is not boring just pushing buttons !!
Always see the sun and exciting weather phenomena when you're up there. No pending "to do"-items after the day is finished. Just go home, have a beer and relax.
Well, only few of us fellow aviators finally get the big bucks, but so what ? I live from what I love.....FLYING !!! :) :) :)

I have been flying since 1981. I started when I was in the military, I got my ATPL in 1987. The day job was getting to play moving target for any idiot that didn't agree with the government of the day. It was only exciting, AFTER the shooting had stopped and you and your mates survived the "contact".

Airline flying is meant to be SAFE, ie routine. If you want exciting flying, try doing it with the military. You'll still get bored on some missions and you still have to push buttons, but you get the odd "police action" with which to scare yourself stupid.

Sometimes boring is GOOD. :)

I have seen plenty of people give up their flight training when they realise that the "money" and "prestige" they are in the game for takes a lot longer to materialise than they first thought (at least it does where I come from).

I am very sorry, but in my opinion, wanting to fly for the money, the prestige or because you love the company is not enough. You have to have some degree of passion for the flying itself. Remember, it is my opinion.

I think that if you love to fly along with the company that you work for you have the best of both worlds. The points I made were regarding those that were ONLY in it for the three aforementioned reasons.

By the way, congrats on your selection with BA. I only just noticed it in the "BOO HOO" post. You seem to be very passionate (there's that word again!!) about BA and flying and I wish you all the best
