JAA license expired

I have done many searches, contacted the CAA, banged my head against a brick wall and I am still struggling to find an answer so hopefully someone here can help.

I finished flight school in 2010 and my JAA license was issued in Feb 2011. Since then I have been employed by Qatar Airways and have been operating under my Qatari license. Unfortunately I didn’t keep my JAA license current so presumably it expired in 2016. I am now applying to some UK based airlines and so I’m going to need to revalidate my License.

Can anybody shed any light on what I need to do?

Did you get your JAA licence from the UK CAA? Did you acquire a JAA IR?

Yes to both

Renew medical, refresher training as required, proficiency check(s), and a bit of paperwork.

Create a CAA customer portal account for e-Licensing and medical records. A fresh initial medical exam will be needed if the medical has lapsed by 5+ years. A UK prof check can be done without a valid medical.

Refresher training isn't mandatory to renew a UK aircraft or instrument rating for which you hold the equivalent third-country rating. FCL.740(b) and FCL.625(e) in Part-FCL annexed to the UK Aircrew Regulation.

If you're a native English speaker, or as near as, and the examiner holds a level 6 English Language Proficiency endorsement, then you can be assessed as as level 6 during the prof check. More details on On-Track Aviation's ELP info page.

If you don't use e-Licensing, apply for the conversion on form SRG 1104, and for the ELP assessment on SRG 1199. If you rely on third-country ratings to avoid mandatory refresher training, submit SRG 2142 beforehand.

Thank you for the responses. I still have a valid UK medical and I am a native speaker

Not sure about your JAA licence, from memory these were licences that expired, I think 5 years for the CPL, but if you had any other licence like a PPL your IR should preserve the validity of your ATPL exams, assuming you have had Qatari IRs in the intervening years. @Selfin is absolutely the expert on chapter and verse, he/she may have an opinion.

I have gone through the same. I had a JAA ATPL (UK Issued) which expired in 2016. I maintained my Hong Kong ATPL in the intervening years. Before arriving back in the UK I was told by the CAA that I fall under FCL740 so had to get my Hong Kong ATPL certified by a legal professional and keep the medical and IR current during this time which for me expire next year, and then submit the third country rating application to the CAA SRG 2142. This took around one month to which I received an email informing me I had 6 months to complete the steps to revalidate my UK issued ATPL. As has already been mentioned I set up the CAA portal and completed my initial class one medical again whilst at the same time completed a LST on the 747 which is my current type, and received a course completion certificate from the ATO I used. Once my medical is returned I will then complete forms SRG 1104 (there is a section in this where you tick the expired JAR licence section) and SRG 1308 pay the appropriate fees and wait, the time the CAA take to process is anyones guess, but I believe ok if you put the application in before the last day of 2022. Anyone who has any feedback I would be grateful to hear.
