EASA MEP/MEIR Renewal

Hi - On my EASA IAA Licence my MEP rating expired last October and my MEIR will expire this November.

I now hold a UK Licence and therefore don't have a need to keep revalidating my MEP & MEIR on my IAA licence.

Am I right in saying that provided I renew my MEIR within 7 years I will not have to repeat theory exams or sit an initial skills test again?

Similarly for my MEP rating are there any restrictions on when it has to be renewed by before its starts to get complicated?

Basically I want to keep my licence in a state where I only need to renew it when required to avoid losing my ratings.

Hopefully that makes sense - thanks for your help!

It doesn't need to be an MEIR, an SEIR every 7 years is enough to save the ATPL exams.

Provided that you keep the IR valid on your UK licence, the 7 year deadline doesn't apply (see FCL625(e)).

Ok thank you - but even if I was to not do the SEIR or MEIR I still have 7 years after expiry before I need to renew it to avoid having to resit things?

If I keep the MEIR valid on my UK Licence the 7 year deadline doesn't apply to my EASA Licence?

Not necessarily, they are two different licences now.

There are two distinct 7 year deadlines in Part-FCL.

One applies to the IR whose 7 year deadline can be based on the validity of an IR issued by any ICAO contracting state. FCL.625(e).

The other applies to the ATPL exam pass. This remains valid for the issue of an ATPL for up to 7 years after the IR has lapsed. FCL.025(c)(2)(i). This is not satisfied by any ICAO IR, though I think there's a good case for an article 71 exemption.
