MEP Land rating for Airlines?

Hello everyone, can anyone please clarify if the airlines require you to have a valid/active MEP Land class rating? I was informed by most of my colleagues that only MEP-IR is required to commence type rating, however, someone told me that you need MEP Land for base training since it is done under VFR? Would be quite counterproductive seeing as the MEP land is specific to twin piston engine and not jets and i was under the impression that the type rating e.g. a320 would qualify you to fly visuals for base training and circuits.

I am currently on the waiting list for my local airline however my ratings are close to expiry, i intend to revalidate my MEP-IR however, if given the option, i would rather save costs by not revalidating the MEP land if it is not necessary to.

thank you very much

An MEIR is required to commence a FIRST multi pilot type rating.
An MEP is required to get an MEIR.
Until about 5 years ago you could get an MEIR without holding an MEP rating but that loophole has been closed.

The airlines don't care about an MEP rating. Its nothing to do with base training either - why would a piston rating allow you to fly a jet? Base training is done after you have passed the type rating check for the aircraft.

my thoughts exactly, thanks for the clarification.
