Leading Edge join with FTEJerez

The word is they have contracted out their training. We have been told at the end of groundschool we move to Spain. The flying course only fly once every two or 3 weeks so maybe that is good.

What is Jerez like? Should I cancel my training and continue with L3 or someone else?

Alex Whittingham 6th Feb 2022 21:12

FTE Jerez are very highly thought of. If this is true you will not be disadvantaged.

With L3?

Please tell me this is trolling

The winter & spring months are absolutely fine for flying at Jerez.
Come the end of May usually the OAT starts to raise significantly so that June through to (?middle of) September is a tad hot.
Expect 35-40°c as normal daily max in July & August.
Dehydration is avoided by taking sufficient water on board.
Although the PA28s do not have AIRCON, the DA42 do.

Alex Whittingham 7th Feb 2022 10:21

An interesting thread title, though. Have they actually joined, has Jerez taken over Leading Edge or are Leading Edge contracting their flight training to FTE, or parts of it?

portsharbourflyer 7th Feb 2022 10:49

The CAE MPL cadets that transferred to FTE made extremely good progress in their training and all finished in a timely manner. Where as the CAE MPLs that transferred to to the CAE Integrated are still waiting to complete training.
So the feedback I have from cadets is that FTE is a well organised school. This also explains why FTE is advertising for instructors.

Lets hope FTE continue to manage things well as they get this sizeable intake.

L3 are closing Bournemouth so transferring to L3 is probably not a good idea.

Of the big 3 I only hear good things about FTE, However the employment situation for UK FIs isn't looking good with L3 closing and Leading Edge creating a fair weather base.

Nothing has been confirmed nor announced by Leading Edge, this is purely speculation from details that have been given to students. Their intention is to announce a fair weather base, however the location has not yet been made public let alone a flight school merger.

I thought along the same lines… but what a strange move from both of them

Is FTE so quiet they now take students from other schools?
is Leading Edge giving up on conducting training from their “fair weather” base in Oxford?

I have no clue but I am sure we will hear further about this

wish the best to all people involved

FirewolfDaimyo 7th Feb 2022 21:03

None of this has been confirmed, and from what has been said in meetings, it seems extremely unlikely that they would contract out their own students, considering they are currently accepting L3 students to complete their flying portion of the training. I understand this forum is all about speculation, but speaking in absolutes is wrong, incorrect, and misleading. Unless you have evidence for your claim OP, I don't think your title is accurate. What's even worse is that you would be undermining an NDA if you even did know this for a fact. Knowingly going against what you have specifically been asked not to do for reasons that impact the training of your peers shows poor form...

LeftHighandDry 8th Feb 2022 09:06

The reality is that virtually no one actually knows what's happening yet. This is all speculation.

If indeed a Non Disclosure Agreement was in force(?), why on earth would management arrange for discussions to be made known to a course of customers/students.
Unless they themselves were a party to the NDA, it is inevitable that a “non approved rumour” will be begin to circulate.

Is there any update to this?

Dont think there was anything serious about this. Both remain completely independent, to my knowledge

Latest Update

Leading Edge have announced their fair weather base is in Alhama de Murcia Southern Spain.

anoraknaphobia 2nd Sep 2022 12:43

Good move

Well done LEA, the FWB will alleviate congestion and improve continuity for those all important VFR lessons. Agree this is a ‘Rumour Network’ but glad it’s the end of wild opinions and guessing.

Going to be interesting hearing how they get on there considering the site was foreclosed on 3/4 years ago and has has no development since then.

No hangarage or even cover for aircraft out in high temperatures all day. If the plan is for diamonds to be used for continuity, they are known to have issues at high temperatures. CAE found this out very quickly.
Likely no fuel, maybe avgas but no jeta1.
No ATC, so starting there then going to some of the busiest airspace in the UK will be a big jump. Again, FTE students had issues in the UK (pre-brexit) with the change of pace and that is far busier.
Who knows what the plan for maintenance is, the major Murcia airports are not far away at least.

There is a building there on Google maps, and a car

I think I’ve met you on one of the Flat Earth sites or possibly Anti-Vax.

Do you seriously think that all of this hasn’t been planned for or dealt with. There are buildings and fuel, the accommodation is excellent and close by, and there is an international airport close as well, so there will be interaction with ATC. This, as with all FWBs is for VFR and hour building up to MEP level. As for the unreliability of the Diamonds, I’m not a fan, but they operated through the 34° period at OXF fine lately, and there is or will be maintenance, in house I think, at Alhama.

Alex Whittingham 3rd Sep 2022 10:02

I'm confused by Google. This Link google translated talks about Alhama de Murcia aerodrome and Campo de Vuelo aerodrome as if they are the same place. Any locals? The only Campo de Vuelo I can find in Murcia is a grass strip near Yecla.

flybyschool 3rd Sep 2022 14:59

My understanding is that they will be operating from Murcia International Airport
Murcia International Airport
https://maps.app.goo.gl/vFDvSb92LVtn8yrh6?g_st=ic

of course any new base will require investment in hangars, maintenance, fuel and many more details… but nothing impossible to do provided you have the knowledge and the finances in place.
I have no reason to doubt LEA have more than enough of the two to make it a success story
wishing them the best
cheers
