FAA CPL to EASA ATPL Conversion -- In the Caribbean?
 

This is a curiosity question, but as a US Citizen working on my CPL (who would like to get an EASA ATPL), I am wondering if I could do it without traveling to Europe.

Are there any countries/territories in the Caribbean where I could take the tests and obtain the training to convert FAA to EASA?

There are more than half a dozen training organisations in the US approved by EASA where most of the training and testing you require can be done. These will be found in the list of ATOs under EASA oversight at https://www.easa.europa.eu/domains/a...anisations-ato The EASA ATPL written exams, which also cover the exams requirements for the CPL and IR, can be taken at Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne, FL.

Air Caraïbe in Guadeloupe is the only training organisation, approved for type rating training courses, which is principally established in the French Caribbean departments and collectivities. None of these is listed with a registered address in the Caribbean countries or municipalities which form the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

Are you aware that the Part-FCL ATPL(A) experience requirements include 500 hours in multi-pilot aeroplane operations? Training and testing for the EASA CPL might be more appropriate. If this is the case and if you undertake training towards the EASA IR in an EASA ATO located outside the territory of the EASA Member States then you'll need to carry out some instrument acclimatisation flying and the IR skill test, equivalent to an FAA practical test, in an EASA Member State. This includes the territories for which EASA Member States are reponsible under the Chicago Convention such as the abovementioned Caribbean countries and territories. There are over two dozen approved training organisations and declared training organisations in the French departments and collectivities, including New Caledonia, but it doesn't appear that any of the Caribbean ATOs are approved for the MEP (AMEL) or the CPL or the IR. So if you complete training for an EASA IR at an EASA ATO located in the US, then you'll be able to carry out the acclimatisation flying and skill test in the French or Dutch overseas countries and territories, in the event that you cannot reach Europe.

He's talking about converting an FAA CPL to an EASA fATPL. He said he is working on his FAA CPL so probably only has 150 hours.
