Hi Kamal, there is nothing stopping you from studying the ATPL theory before starting the course, but you'll need a PPL before starting the ground school if you are a modular pilot. Have you completed all your PPL exams yet? To be quite honest, the best preparation you can do is to thoroughly study the PPL syllabus before starting the ATPLs.

hi thanks for your reply.yes I have done them all.(ppl exams).at the moment I am not doing flight training at all just sitting home and I do have study time.

of course you can do ATPL studies, I'm not sure if you can sit any exams mind or if all schools will take you. However, there is nothing stopping you doing the ground study, you can get books through CAE or through BGS. If you're bored get them, read them and understand them, do some of the questions and you'll only be going on to help yourself in the long run. If you wanted to do the mock exams you can do that too through AE or BGS I believe. If you want to study, there is nothing to stop you, and if you do it will help you long term.

Thankyou I will call bgs or cats aviation as these two seems to be the good one.I am sure I might have to go for full time class room studies...as atpl doesn't seems to be easy to understand if I self study.

you’ll have to get them collected though - they weigh a bloody tonne!

Hi Kamal, the rules say that you can't start an ATPL theory course unless you hold a PPL. The UK CAA have the most extreme interpretation of this which is that 'hold' means 'hold in your hand', ie issued and delivered. For that reason most reputable ATOs won't be able to start you off on a course at this stage of your PPL training. What I would suggest is that you get Paco's book in PDF from here, very reasonably priced and up-to-date. When you do start a course you will find it useful as an alternative reference.
