Performance Safety Factors

Can someone give a good place or a good explanation about the performance factors?
I am struggling to understand when I should use them or not and when should I multiply or divide them.

Kind regards

Performance Planning is all about minimising risk. This could be described as avoiding disappointment. S o a good general approach might be stated as, Be pessimistic and you will avoid disappointment.

If we start our planning by looking at the distances available (TORA, ASDA, TODA) we reduce them by dividing by the safety factors.

If we start by assuming a perfectly flat, dry paved runway, we go through the performance charts to find out how much distance we will need. We then increase this by multiplying by the safety factors, and we then use these pesimistic figures to calculate our maximum take-off mass.

Thank you!

The safety factors (i.e. not using more than a certain portion of what is available) are there to ensure that, when you get to your screen height (based on a double decker bus, BTW) there is still, say, 25% of the runway to go, based on the remote probability (10 -6) that one day you might need it.
