Regarding Cessna F172M CD-155(diesel variant)/Help for Indian Regs

Hi all,
I have this opportunity to train in Reims Cessna F172M Skyhawk with CD155 diesel variant engine in Europe. Could you just answer a few questions :

1. Only C172 Skyhawk's R or S variants, their subsequent diesel engines variants and related changes are available and "Design Accepted" in India for Type Certification and registration. Cessna F172M is not recognised and listed in the Indian Civil Aviation Requirements pdfs of original design or Supplemental design acceptance.
2. If I return to India for Conversion, should I undergo specified amount of Endorsement training on available Indian registered cessna 172 R or S before giving General Flying Checks? If yes how much hours of Endorsement training?
3. While researching I came to know Cessna 172RG cutlass, Reims FR172J and K variants are marketed as C172s but are actually Type Certified as C175. What is the case for Cessna F172 M skyhawk? Whether it is Type Certified as C172 or C175?

I appreciate any people with knowledge in designs of cessnas can answer regardless of Nationality and people familiar with their local Air law or regs can also please try and answer my concern...
I am most thankful for Indians or people with accurate guidance for Indian Regulations.

P.S.: I kindly request you not to suggest me to train in an aircraft registered and accepted in India. Please impart knowledge on the above scenario.

I can't answer your questions about Indian training requirements, but I can clear up the questions about the US type certificates and what models are on what TC.

The Cessna 172RG is on FAA type certificate 3A17, which also includes the Cessna 175. The Cessna 172R and 172S are on TC 3A12 along with most of the other 172 variants.

The FR172J and FR172K are on TC A18EU, and the F172M is on TC A4EU. Both of these TCs were transferred to Cessna from Reims, and the US is now the state of design for those TCs. There are no models with a "175" in them on either of those TCs.

Tracking down and viewing US type certificate data sheets is relatively easy. Go to rgl.faa.gov, and select "type certificate data sheets" at the bottom of the databases list. You can then search by model, holder, TC number, and a few other options. Here's a link:

Avi, how many times will you ask the same question? In different subfora?
I think you need to direct your question to the DGCA.

Hi B2N2,
I asked the same on the next day in a different forum.. when I presumed no one answered the question hoping someone would see it and answer. Answers started pour in only after sometime.

Hi Dave Therhino,

So to conclude F172M is recognised as a Cessna product from USA after transfer from French Reims. So what type of endorsement is considered when you train on an F172M according to FAA? Whether it is generally C172 or a different class F172M which doesnt equal C172(cont'd) models..? (considerFAA rules. Disregard DGCA Indian rules)

Thank you for your detailed answer and sources.

Hi HemanthAvi,

My background is in engineering and I'm not a pilot. I am not familiar with the training requirements for the various versions of the Cessna 172 and license-built 172s, or if training on one model is considered to qualify a pilot to fly another model. I would suggest contacting the DGAC or a local flight training organization to ask your questions.

Oh that's alright. thank you.
