Total hours for airline interviews
 
Hi guys,

what are your thought on eligibility of type of aircraft hours to account for Total Time required by airlines?

as we know if you are doing your EASA CPL licence, to have it issued at the end of the training you needed to obtain 200h total flying time on Group A / or EASA certified aircraft.

Now when we go out looking for a job and airlines require your total time of min. 250, 300, 400, 500... etc, can we count in other time we have flown on let's say Microlight plane (Ultralight in EU) for example type which are being registered as both Microlight/LSA depending on the spec or customer requirements? example: C42 Ikarus.

I do presume the answer is: No, you cannot include these hours. But may be someone has personal experience, or work in or near recruitment to tell us first hand.

Since this is rather not legal requirement, as opposed to regs regarding issuing CPL, may be there is some room for negotiations on this front.

Secon question - have you heard of hour builders in Europe flying together one aircraft and both logging P1 time...? I have heard its normal practice some countries and clubs?

If you have experience in other categories of aircraft then itemise these appropriately on the CVor application form. It all goes to show experience of operating some form of aircraft....

Bottom line is you want your application to put you above the next person in line so however you can highlight yourself is always good.... apart from by doing what you claim is happening in your second question!!!!

There can only be one person in command - who’s going to make the decisions? Nothing wrong with making a note of it in your logbook - the experience is beneficial - but don’t count it in the totals - wrong on so many levels.

I am just not sure if my extra 50hrs on ultralight go in anyway towards TT for min. required hours in the job adverts. But it may depend I guess.

Don't overcomplicate it. Hours as a pilot are total time. (Logable hours that is!) They'll most likely ask for something like: 2000 total hours with 1000 hours turbine aircraft over 20t or something similar. They acknowledge that we weren't all born flying a jet!

Personally I would make it absolutely clear that they are separate hours. The last thing you want is misleading your future employer as to your total EASA FCL hours PIC, if this is what they've asked for. It would not look good at the interview stage if they caught you out.

Everyone has had to jump through a lot of hoops to get the interview. Sure, make yourself look as good as possible, but I'd draw the line at counting hours which cannot truly be counted towards the total time the airline is realistically looking for.

Employers ask to for PIC jet, PIC prop, PIC sep, PIC mep so don’t worry about confusing anyone with total times. I added my 12hrs from the air cadets when I was looking for a job.

Totally agree. As I havent't gone through any recruitment screening yet, about to take my CPLMEIR flying tests, I have real hands on experience on what hours they ask for specifically, all I can see is total hours on covers for job adverts. thanks for your input!

yeah that's the interesting one. i guess then it will depend on the recruiting company what they want to see from you. And it is good to know you could add some other legit PIC hours from your flying, well earned! :)

it makes me cringe knowing some people I will be competing with for the first flying job will have double logged/exaggerated logbooks just put their foot through the door... ah well that the world all around us I guess everywhere we go.
