Stapleford or Aeros flight training

So I have reserved a place on a modular course to start in January 2020 at Stapleford. I am also hearing positive feedback for Aeros flight training. Now Stapleford is good 20 mins drive from where I live so more convenient. Aeros is 1 hour 45 drive so not so convenient. I have received positive feedback for both flight school. Should I just stick with Stapleford? The reason why I ask is I don’t want to change schools halfway through training, I would rather stick with one school for all of the training.

Any feedback?

I should stick to Stapleford just on the grounds it's so convenient. Flying training can be very tiring, a 20 minute drive is very easy an 1:45 will become a pain after a while. Being so close will give you more flexibility with the ever changing British weather.

I don't know which is better but 20mins vs 1:45 each way thats 40 mins vs 3h 30 mins each way. Thats a huge difference - a lot of time out of your day. If you are going to travel that much longer think of the difference how tired you will be.
For me unless the further one is way way better or much cheaper then I'd go with the closer one.

What kind of feedback did you get?

Please keep us posted on your training, and afterwards good or bad. Good Luck

Your choice should not be based on location but quality of training. However do not think it is practical to travel 1.45 each way every day. Don't forget that 1.45 could easily become 2.30. If you did end up going to Aeroes you would really need accommodation in the Gloucester area or which ever of their bases you ended up at.

Stapleford used to have a very good reputation and was a school I considered but that was over 20 years ago so if you are happy with what you have seen of them and are being told by recent ex students they are still instructing to a high standard the decision is easy.

I ended up at Halfpenny Green with Chris Cain for my BCPL and instructor rating. It was a difficult choice to make as there were plenty of good options available at the time but he had a quality reputation, was competitively priced and the deciding factor was that my wife to be lived 30 minutes up the road and provided free accomodation.

I would stay at Stapleford if its close to home, time and money saved and you can just pop down if a last minute cancellation and/or if a flight was weathered off you can nip home, no drama, takes the pressure off and it does add when your paying £450 an hours for a twin....

Not sure what licence your doing but if its a PPL stay away from a commercial school, go to a flying club first, cheaper and less $ orientated then go to commercial school if its what you want to do.

I did some training at Aeros and I found them to very dishonest, as per previous post I put, they regularly take deposits off people, one chap was charged £5,000 for uniform! I spoke with him directly, it did happen and he was looking at small claims court to get it back. They have also had a few crashes not reported and this big one last year which I believe is a criminal charge now: https://www.gov.uk/aaib-reports/aaib...ior-iii-g-wavs. I have heard that airlines are staying away from Aeros students due to the bad reputation.

Wherever you choose, good luck in your studies and enjoy it!

Thanks for the comments above, based on this I think my instinct was right as it was saying Stapleford is right choice however I have visited them in person and they look fine to me.
