One step forward...
So, for those who may be interested, I went for a class 2 renewal a few days ago.
Last certificate expired in 2006 and I'm a little bit older now, so I was expecting it not to be quite as easy a ride as before, but blimey... Eyesight fine, but am properly colour blind. I knew that, and had managed to get rid of the VCL restriction by passing a lantern test last time, but apparently the CAA now has 'no record' of me having taken it, so I need to do that again. I'm asthmatic, something which has reoccurred since my last certificate, so off I need to trot to a respiratory specialist for a bronchial reactivity test. And the ECG has shown a deviation to the left ('it's an age thing,') so that's gone off to a cardiologist for them to confirm it's within tolerance. Starting to make me wonder about the likelihood of passing a class 1, where I'll also need to jump through an anisometropia hoop... In better news, I had my first flight since 2013 a week or so ago at Redhill Aviation, and apart from being thrust right back into the joys of aviation (took off a full hour later than I was meant to) I rather joyfully discovered that I still knew how to fly, and rather more importantly that all of my dual time (60 odd hours) still counts. Alas, none of my solo time does, so I need to repeat all of that... |

As to your medical, these issues are best dealt with by a copy/paste to the MEDICAL thread where no doubt a member of the white coat brigade will offer advice. Your AME might also give you a clue as to your Class One prospects? |
