CAA secondary medical review
Hi Guys,
I have recently been deemed unfit for my CAA Class 1 medical due to an allergy, meaning that I cannot become an airline pilot. I am going to appeal and try to get a secondary review. If anyone has any experience in the appeals process for the CAA I'd love to hear from you. Thanks! |
Had a restriction put on my licence by the UK CAA few years back. They said come back in 6 months with similar good results and we'll remove your restriction. 6 months later, despite good results they extended my restriction again. No reason given. Went to another CAA with my case. They did not see any justifiable reason for my restriction. Transferred my medical to the new CAA and got my full medical back. Haven't had any issues since. Check with other jurisdictions, you might well be surprised of the result... hope that helps. Linda787 PS: I originally started an appeal with the UK CAA but because of the time frame involved (months ?? Years ??) and the uncertainty of the result, I decided to just switch authority right away. Within 2 weeks with the new CAA I had my full medical back |
What are you allergic to, and what's the severity? Chance of Anaphylaxis?
I'm an allergy sufferer also and I am slightly behind you in the medical process |
I have a peanut allergy, and test results show that I could have an anaphylactic shock, so I need to carry an epi pen. |
Was you referred by your AME to do an allergy test? And did you do a simple prick test or blood work?
I'm waiting for an allergy test at an immunolgist myself. I believe a simple prick test isn't enough to eliminate a possibility of Anaphylaxis? You may have a good chance after appealing, as I have a friend with a nut allergy who passed his class 1 in 2015, also there is other threads on here with people who received an OML instead of being deemed unfit. There's other pilots flying with allergies! |
I went to see an immunologist and I had a blood test which showed I am still highly allergic to peanuts, he said it may be worth applying for a review just in case. What sort of allergy do you have? |
I have an allergy to Cashew nuts which I was last tested for as a child, and at the time I was found to be highly allergic like yourself.
Is there any possibility of carrying out a "Chalenge test" with a qualified professional? |
I had the blood test which showed I was highly allergic, to the point where they wouldn’t allow me to do the challenge test |
Hi Linda787,
Thanks for the advice, would you be able to tell me which CAA gave you your medical back? Thanks |

Hi Tapperdills1, I'm currently waiting to hear back after being referred for peanut allergy and having bloodwork done. Submitted the test results today. How did things go with your medical?
