Suggestions on pilot career path requested

Hello, I am a freshman student in US as a permanent resident. Having long dreamt of taking the sky, I wonder what to do in order to get myself a career of professional pilots.
In order to fly for an airline, what do I need and what can I do starting today to prepare for that?

Visit your local flying club. Arrange to have a trial lesson.

B1168,

You've asked a big question. Are you a high school or college freshman ? Do you have anyone close by with enough exposure to aviation to advise you ?

Since you're in the US, I'd recommend a US-centric website where these things are discussed. Try jetcareers.com in their forum section where things like this get discussed regularly.

parkfell's suggestion is a good one. You may find a flying club or may need to look around for flight schools in the KDFW area where introductory flights are offered.

If you decide to take a run at flying for a career, your physical condition will rule all. You'd need an FAA First Class medical certificate and would want to take the exam to see if there are any snags in play.

In the meantime, here are links to a couple of FAA books covering the most fundamental body of knowledge for a person starting to fly. You can peruse them to see if this even interests you...or bores you to tears:
