Converting NZCAA to FAA

Has anyone had any experience converting their Commercial licences to FAA licenses?
In particular I am interested in the costs and additional requirements for doing so.
Many Thanks.

space1,

In order to convert your foreign license to an FAA license you will need the following:

1) Private license conversion issued, based on your current license.

2) Pass an FAA Medical.

3) Pass the written exam for the Instrument rating.

4) Pass the practical Instrument Exam with an FAA Examiner.

5) Pass the written exam for Commercial Rating.

6) Pass the practical Commercial Exam with an FAA Examiner.

The additional costs will be some ground school and 3 hours prep with an instructor for each practical exam.

Note: If you have a full instrument rating and meet the requirements for the FAA ATP, you can just take the ATP written exam, FAA Medical, and ATP Practical Exam bypassing 1-6 listed above.

Happy Flying,
