FAA ATPL

Hi there,

this topic was discussed several times but I could need some help:

I'd like to get an FAA ATPL. Currently holding an EASA ATPL.
Will do a full typerating later this year, FAA checkride could be part of it.
And I need to pass the written Exam.

So far so good, BUT:
I've read that it is now required to do an FAA approved 30h groundschool course and 10h sim over 40t before taking the written Exam and ATPL Multi Engine checkride.

Is that correct?

Thanks for your help!

Yup. It's called the ATP-CTP and there is no workaround: you need to do the course before they let you take the written. I suppose theoretically you could ask for a waiver but it's unlikely. You could go straight for a CPL/MEIR though.

Thanks rudestuff, great help!

Are there any good ATP-CTP training providers in Europe?

What are the disadvantages going the CPL/MEIR route?

Here's a list of approved providers. I'm too lazy to dig further looking for an EU program but best of luck in your efforts:

What type do you have on your EASA ATPL, and what type rating are you doing this year?

McMax 22nd May 2017 08:23

Thanks bafanguy.

@rudestuff: Current A320, getting a G650 rating.

rudestuff 22nd May 2017 09:57

Wow I hear they cost $$$. The reason I asked is you could get your current type on an FAA ATP with just a check ride

McMax 23rd May 2017 07:33

I'm not paying for the rating but you're right, not the cheapest rating out there ;)

Would like to do some freelance stuff on the G650 when experienced on type, many N-regs around though...

Thanks for the help!
