Flight training advise for beginners
 

Hi all. I dream to be an airline pilot since I was very young. So, recently, I have just started my flight training in US. FYI I studied ground school theory by myself. I had 6 flying lessons (approximately 6-7hours), but I still found that I am not quite comfortable with flying a plane, e.g. taxi, takeoff, how to level off a flight after a climb and descent. I feel like my instructor is going too fast in throwing me all the information, like start teaching me stall and landing before I learnt how to do a coordinated flight. Could you guys please share with me how's your first few hour flight lessons are? What did you learn and the progress? My instructor already taught me how to stall an airplane and recovery at the third class. Is it a normal thing for instructor to do that?

Don't stress, you will feel overwhelmed at first but as you gain experience it will all come together. Moving between exercises is a common teaching technique to keep students interested as well as encourage you to think on your feet an recall previously taught information.

6-7 hour is early days, you still have lots to learn, enjoy the experience.

The PPL syllabus is not that massive when you break it all down but some areas are very important e.g. stall recovery, unusual attitudes, slow flight, this might be why they are being introduced early as you will have a better understanding of why flying straight and level is important, especially as you proceed to nav exercises where you will be multi tasking to a pretty high level i.e. aviate, navigate, communicate.

Don't be shy either, be open with your instructor, you will learn quicker and have a better understanding of flying, it's not about learning as fast as you can, it's about learning to become a good pilot, take my word on that.

Are you doing an intensive course? Just PPL? Or more?

I personally found that the first few times you go up with an instructor, you look at everything that's happening and think you'll never be able to do this flying stuff. However, it's surprising how quickly things click once you're in the circuit. You'll be solo before you know it. Stick at it and I guarantee things will fall into place.
