MEIR renewal question
Heyy Guys,
I have a EASA license with an IR which expired end of last year.My MEP expired in June 2014.When I spoke to a school they said I have to renew the MEP and IR.Is it compulsory to renew the MEP along with the IR?Can't I just renew the IR?I am looking to renew in either Czech/Bulgaria/Hungary/Romania.What is the process if the examiner is not from UK?Can't I just renew the IR?I have been going through the CAP 804 but couldn't find anything. Appreciate the help |
The UK allows you to renew the IR without renewing the MEP rating. Other countries argue that you cannot hold an IR without a class rating (MEP, or type etc). So yes, some schools will "force" you to renew the MEP as well.
You can renew anywhere in EASA, the examiner just has to sit through a UK CAA powerpoint to get "certified" for the UK requirements. They then sent the paperwork to Gatwick. You'll need to renew in the aircraft since your IR is expired. The difference between renewing IR only and IR + MEP is only about 5 minutes of flight time. Basically the only extra thing is an engine out circuit to land. The examiner fee will be higher as well, but really you're only looking at about 150€ extra. -- Based on personal experience with the renewal process. |
thanks for the help! Now I have clarity on the process:)Cheers:ok:

If you are a UK licence holder, and intend to use a non-UK examiner for the IR or MEP/IR Proficiency Check, they must comply with the examiner designation requirements stated in the EASA Examiner Differences document and guidance in Information Notice IN 2016-003. No powerpoint required any more.
Basically the only extra thing is an engine out circuit to land. If you have any questions about the training or test, do drop me a PM. |
I have the same issue and I m looking examiner differences documents fır another EASA countries.
