About Takeoff Minimum in Jeppesen
 

Dear all,
(1)Assume, METAR KABC VISIBILITY 1/4SM without report RVR.

(2)KABC takeoff minimum is RVR 500FT in Jepps chart.

(3)Then, how can I converse RVR to VIS, or only way is converse VIS to RVR?

(3.1)If I converse VIS to RVR which is easier, 1/4SM => RVR 1600FT then above takeoff minimum RVR 500FT. But is it exactly right?

You're referring to "prevailing visibility" which is a measurement of the greatest distance visible throughout at least half of the horizon (as observed form a tower controller or a weather observation unit like AWOS or ASOS) and not necessarily continuously.

Runway Visual Range (RVR) is the distance (in feet or meters) over which a pilot of an aircraft (usually) at the runway threshold can see down the runway. RVR is measured by Transmissometer/s installed along the runway.

However, if the visibility is less than the minimum visibility for the lowest approach (usually ILS) of the respective runway, it is not recommended to commence takeoff.

If KABC is reporting lass than a mile vis they should be reporting RVR. That said the FAA publishes a conversion - 1600=1/4 2400=1/2, 4000=3/4 and 5000=1 mile.
