Does Non-traditional A levels ruin chances of getting into flight schools?
 

I am currently in AS levels taking ICT and Media Studies (On track for a A/B in both) also retaking science as my Biology isn't great (Predicted a B in Physics and B/C in the Chemistry and Biology). Although CTC doesn't require A levels I'm concerned that my competition will be strong and may not stand much of a chance against people with Maths and Physics as A levels. Will candidates A level grades have a big influence if they are to be successful or not? I also do plenty of gliding with 66 hours (21 solo) also passed my Bronze theoretical exam and I'm also an Air Cadet so I have plenty of leadership skills and great working in teams, so you can tell I'm pretty keen! Any advice would be really appreciated :)

I doubt very much that they will care.

Half decent grades, basically numerate, and you know a bit about flying.

I think your chances are as good as anybody else's who can raise the money.

You need to be comfortable with numbers as they form a large part of what flying is about.
Good passes at 'O' level / GCSE / Standard Grade / National 5 in Maths, Physics, and some would say English is a sound basis for the ATPL exams.
What you do post 'O' level is not critical. Again demonstrate you have sufficient grey matter to succeed.
However anything concerning under water basket weaving does not count.

The Navigation paper is the acid test that your brain is wired up correctly for aviation. Probably fewest number of facts, but all about understanding.

GAVTHENAV will probably have a wee smile on his face should he read this in sunny Spain between classes.

SIN COS TAN is as difficult as it gets.
BA & Aer Lingus require a higher academic standard than stated above.

Basic understanding of mathematics and physics and a bit of commonsense and intuition is all you need. :)

Heard stories that easy , BA , Flybe would not look at graduating cadets unless they had 3 'C's or better at A level . Someone with 2 Cs and a D was passed over , but another with C, D, D and a 2.2 degree in origami was accepted for interview .

Don't get too hung up about it. Far more important is you as a person and what you can personally bring to the table, you will be asked about a time when you have displayed a certain 'competency' and what you did in that situation.
