I have recently completed my ATPL and after completing my 100 hours I want to start my cpl /mep/ir. I am having to self fund so I don't have the means to do my training in places like oxford or Ctc wings. I have conducted a research on many schools around UK and the schools with good reviews like BCFT, PAT, Airways, Multiflight , their estimate training cost is no less than £30000. I was hoping if someone can provide further advise as to what steps I can take to get cheaper but good quality training. Is there any truth in that airlines prefer you to complete cpl/ir in one school. I researched some of the schools in Europe but I am slight apprehensive after reading the feedback on here about schools like Ventum air, Bartonloni and others. If anyone can share their experiences I would highly appreciate it.

I made my CPL/IR/MCC with Stapleford Flight Center near London some years back. They provided a quality service on good aircraft, with residential possible on site.

I landed my first interview that I attended with an airline in Europe, they weren't concerned so much where I did the course as long as I had the licence.

I hate to say it but shortcuts to spend less money...you and every other student are in the same situation...

I would say go to Oxford or CTC or do nothing. If you want a job this is your best bet. I understand the cost issue, but you are proposing to invest in order to find an airline job. Rightly or wrongly the market seems stitched up by CTC and Oxford, so if want the best chance of a job you need to choose one of them.

Yes not everyone will agree, it is your money, it does not affect me but I am giving you the truth. Everyday I fly with ex CTC and Oxford guys whilst our dispatchers, all modular guys, cannot find anything. These guys have no money to renew their IR's or keep up the hours, the whole thing has been a waste.

It is a shame, I did the modular route and it worked nicely. But things are different now. Sadly there are no shortcuts in aviation.

The simple truth though is that there are too many candidates chasing too few jobs and whether you go to Oxford or CTC or the smaller modular schools mentioned above it is going to be very difficult to secure that first job. I have flown with ex Oxford and ex modular guys (and girls) and both have been a good standard. I agree that Oxford and CTC have stitched the market up and wrongly so as there are some excellent alternatives to the bigger schools........
