CTC Wings Phase 2 Interview/Aptitude Test

Hi all

I just registered with this Forum.....I was reading through some post about good websites that are recommended for aptitude test for initial assessment.

I have just received news that i have passed phase 1 of my assessment for initial training with CTC Wings and have been invited for an interview and an Aptitude test next month. It does not leave much time to prepare but it is something i am determined to do and succeed. I currently work as a teacher but would like to spend all my spare time over the next month preparing for this interview and test.

I was wondering if anyone has done the test and could shine any light about it, what might i expect on the day and most importantly any good websites that i could use to prepare myself for the test. I have been reading that PAT PILAPT is a good software....would you recommend me paying for a one month subscription or if there are any other better cheaper websites out there.

Thank you

When I had my selection there I had 3 days notice, no joke.
I have said it, and I will say it again, the aptitude you either have or you don't. you can definitely brush up on your maths, and perhaps do a little hand eye coordination stuff, but the tests are there to judge your underlying ability. I could spend many hours telling you about the ~45-60 mins of intense testing, but your best bet is to just go and see. That being said, I know of a good website that can help you, its the pilotaptitudetest one. you have to pay for it (not much), but it can be useful in helping you brush up on skills.

As for the interview, just go and sell yourself. You can never be sure the questions they will ask, but you can be fairly certain that they will follow the standard competency format, e.g. a lot of questions asking for examples where you have demonstrated your amazing ability. and don't forget to inject at every turn how much you love flying, but also with a focus on commercial flying.

My best advice is to just practice maths and maybe do a few of the pilapt tests, and just have a good think about a WIDE variety of situations where you have shown your ability. And get a really good nights rest. They like to start early. I came from home so had to get up really quite early. Luckily I still passed, but it was a tough old slog.

My final words would be, if you fail the selection, don't give up. they say that they can't offer any feedback, but you will most likely have a good idea on where you may have gone wrong. Then you get another chance, either having to retake everything or maybe just retaking one part. and failing that, I know people who have failed at CTC, and got into OAA, and vice versa.

I did the selection in March and received the mail the next morining while waiting at Gatwick:eek:...no way!

I went out at the interview.

About the fisrt tests which are math, PILAPT and always the same things I think that just a very common brush up is worth enough and would be ok. Believe me it's nothing impossible, most of the whole deal is set about time management which is aviation scenario like in the cockpit. I would personally suggest to focus more on the pilapt itself which sometimes might be harder especially if you are not quite familiar with it. Nobody wants you to saty still without doing research, so do a bit of a practice...online it's full of tests and simple mock where you can test and improve.

The group exercise is very good. actually there are two of them unless they changed. But believe they are extremely professional. they will tell you everything in advance and let you know exactly what you're about to do with your mates. My group was if i recall exactly 7-8 ppl.
Just collaborate, and think about the set of skills they are looking for. But pls be yourself dont act just to show tohose skills to nake them thinking mmmmhhh this guy is good...they will figure out. and of course take into account thta like you all the others are sharing the same feelings...

About the interview think about relevant examples, as said in the FAQ of the site itself, which can show you're the right sort of person they are looking for, especially those related to leadership and teamwork. think about qualities you have, pro, negative things as well...everybody has, and make sure during your presentation you're enough confident...maintain eye contact...you know the same old deal!!! nothing special really!!!

Many of the guys will pass the PILAPT, what many people don't know though is that the examiners fail most of the people because the did not demonstrate enough leadership skills in the groupwork. My advise to you is to read as many articles as possible for CRM and how this is related to the pilots work.

gcler03 14th Sep 2013 11:09

Thanks for all the advise....i think i will invest in that PIlAPT app and start doing some examples....in relation to the group test and demonstrating leadership, is there any more advise that anyone could provide in relation to preparation....also if you fail is it possible to apply again???

Thank You

Hi AZA636 i have to reply to you on this forum as it says you have not settings set not to receive individual private mails.

Yes i am...going to book it for last week in October...When are you booking yours??? I would most certainly be interested in group prep online. WHen you thinking??Have you any advice on any good websites or softwares that can help me prepare.

Thanks

People, investing in a PILAPT software will give you an idea of how the CBT are, but as many people said in this forum, PILAPT is based on you personal potential and ability, redoing the tests again and again will not raise your aptitude level from what you really are, It's either you have it or not, they can also change the order of the tests or even the whole nature of the tests, no one in this forum gave a 100% of what is included in the tests so far, so most likely if anyone tells you what they did, by the time you went to the selection, the would have changed the tests 10 times. I believe if you invests and you go over the the tests 1 Million times, then you might be in an advantage.;)

The selection process is not hard. You have to remember, unlike the forces selection process, and those of airlines choosing already qualified pilots, CTC's ultimate aim is to make money. They are a business, one which will get their money regardless of placement with an airline, regardless of your success or failure.

I've been there, passed and turned the opportunity down after looking deeper into it all.

You may get lucky, you may well pass and get a job through them, but right now there is a huge queue which you will be at the back of.

Gcler03

I will be doing mine in the new year but i was thinking about a practice if we find other people really interested we can discuss on private.
By the way i have checked my setting and it does show that private messaging it is allowed.
By private i mean we arrange a date and then online we talk even with webcams. But we must be like 5 or 6. I got something that could really help us.
The group test is about a worst case scenario and another one about discussing a problem. They might change of course but at least we can feel more confident.
Believe me in a way or in another everybody does a little practice. And i do believe it is appreciated and they know. It shows your interest your committment. About the thing you either got or not i don't think it is 100% true. It might be in some cases and during the selection i have seen those. But practice makes perfect and anyway we are talking about skills which are personal and interpersonal so i think yours would be really developed. About those technical really nothing impossible. My 2 cents advice don't buy nothing just do a lot of research online. It is really full of mock up exams. I will send you privately.

Bye

Anyone here attending the Wings selection at the beginning of November?

I have just received news that i have passed phase 1 of my assessment for initial training with CTC Wings and have been invited for an interview and an Aptitude test next month.
Congratulations on your succes first of all !

I do have a question however, are you in a good enough financial situation to pay most of your training of with your own money, or will you be taking a loan out?

I don't mean to be nosey, I just want to see if I'm the only one that will be taking a large loan out, as I'm a little bit concerned about the money side to becoming a pilot :ugh:

Pilot2410 17th Oct 2016 08:46

Don't worry I am also having to shell out the money.

CTC have a performance protection right. Does anyone know if this actually means if you got almost to the end Nd have invested say, £80,000 then you don't meet competency they would still return all monies deposited?

Cheers.

Yes, just focus on long division, quick times table knowledge, currency conversions and multiplication - thats all i had in my test. There are also some addition and subtraction questions which can be very easy and will take a matter of seconds to work out. E.g. (one VERY similar to mine) 299 - 198 =?

Ive been through the selection so please ask away and I will do my very best to help!
