'GOOD' Type Ratings
 

Hi,

Despite my 'noobishness' i will still ask!

What would be a 'safe' or 'better' type rating to gain in the recent years. I'm so far aware that Ryanair have put in orders of plenty more B737's but would be good to know what you thought!

A good type rating is one that is paid for by an airline with a solid employment contract attached to it.

Anything else just isn't worth having.

Of Course! But am i right in thinking that this is fairly uncommon in the industry today? Perhaps you could suggest a few that offer this?

B737 or A320 but a type rating on its own is totally useless without a job offer

Useful ratings would be Metro III, King air B200, Saab 340 as you may have a chance after 500 hours TT

Do your own networking and research.

I'm not just going to give you company names on PPRuNe as they would soon be inundated with rubbish.

There are companies out there, generally small turbo props like king airs or whatever, and you need previous experience, instructing is a good way in, but if you're in the right place at the right time and know the right person then you can get a type rating paid for, although you'll probably be bonded for at least 3 years.

The trouble is people think they can just buy their way in, instead of doing it the hard way they want to go from zero to hero in 2 years, and when that doesn't work they buy a type rating, and when that doesn't work they buy line training, and when that doesn't work they buy another 500 hours.

A type rating without a job offer is useless, as you will only learn generic SOPs, and then any company that takes you on will have to retrain you.

So the only good type ratings can only be found by getting out there and doing your own networking. You won't find the answer on an anonymous forum.
