FI training in today's situation

Hello,

I have saved just enough for an FI training, and considering obtaining it.
I would gladly instruct, in fact, looking forward to it, for the extra experience not just for time building.

But I have my doubts. The only certain thing about the whole deal is that I will have additional 30 hours of TT, with no guarantees of actually getting the opportunity to instruct (let's be honest, is there even a market for 240 h TT FI in central/south/southeast Europe...).

The other option would be to continue saving money in case of being offered position in an airline with having to pay for type rating (paying for line training too would never be an option for me, unless it was at a really low impossible price)...
If I did the FI course, I can pretty much forget about having enough for a type rating if the opportunity ever came up...

Would like to hear some opinions if you are willing to share.

Thanks

I would suggest if you do it, do it at a place where there is a good chance that you might get a job offer as an instructor, even if only as freelance. I would suggest good place would be like Stapleford, they nearly only recruit FI's who they have trained themselves.

I am sure there are others similar too. Good experience for sure.

pay for the rating and begin instructing part time whilst continuing to do whatever it is you did to save enough in the first place. then the hours are trickling upwards and you'll have money in the bank when the time is right...

or, you get a decent fi job an can afford to live and develop as an fi and give up on the notion that paying for a type rating is a good idea.

then hopefully when pilots stop collectively bending over and inviting it, you'll have the hours, exp and money in the bank for a rainy day.

just my two pence worth..good luck and also have you applied to gapans fi scholarship?
