Alrighty, so I have done everything a CPL holder can do short of my US CFI, though I do have one in Canada, but I simply hate it. No need to hash that issue here...

I used some money my grandfather left me to pick up a 737NG type without doing any homework at all. I considered Eaglejet, but their current arrangement with Lion is too much for me (5 years in Jakarta... mmmmm... I dunno).

I have 550 hours TT and until last week I had a job as a Challenger 605 pilot in West Africa. Two months later, I quit because of personal security/safety concerns. At this point, I think I am going to head the airline route for a bit... but hopefully overseas somewhere...

I am planning on getting an A320 type from Pan Am with the hopes the Eaglejet A320 program for ICAO people resumes soon. I am also planning on picking up an ATR type from CAE in Toronto. In the meantime, I have a temp freight gig on a Metro III. starting in October.

Here is my question: I know very little about turbo props and their respective "world". If I ratchet up my time to 1000 hours (about 500 being Metro III time), and then start searching for ATR jobs with a PIC on type, would I have a better chance of landing one, than a A320/737 position under the same circumstances?
In other words, does the whole "time on type" concept apply to an ATR the way it does to a jet airliner?

Just a few notes:

I am a US and Canadian Citizen and hold both licenses.
I don't want to talk about money.
I never, ever want to fly for a US regional or US legacy carrier.
I believe in "P2fly" and don't want to hear anyone's negative thoughts on it.

PS, any ATR info would be great to... I know very little about the type other than they are becoming very popular it seems!
