converting FAA to CASA (Australia)

Been doing some research and coming up with mix information so was wondering if anyone on here has done the conversions and can tell me first hand about what is the process in converting FAA CPL/ME/SE/IR to CASA.
What paper needs to be done, exams need to be written, flight training need to be done and cost???.
Just some info I'm not a Australian Citizen but a British Citizen..

Hi Clintonb

According to the CASA website:

As a general rule, pilots seeking to convert a foreign licence to an Australian flight crew licence must:

Pass a conversion exam, which for:
- PPL aeroplane & helicopter currently consists of Flight rules and procedures and Air Law (PAOS or PHOS) written exams and a flight test.
- CPL aeroplane & helicopter currently consists of Flight Rules and Procedures (CLWA or CLWH) and Human Factors (CHUF) written exams and a flight test.
- ATPL aeroplane & helicopter currently consists of CPL Flight Rules and Procedures (CLWA or CLWH) to be passed first, then ATPL Air Law (AALW) and ATPL Human Factors (AHUF) written examination/s. In addition, for conversion of an overseas ATPL(Aeroplane), the command instrument rating examination (IREX) shall also be passed.
- Obtain an Australian medical certificate.
- Possess or pass an ICAO required (oral) English language proficiency (ELP) assessment. CASA has sole prerogative to determine which overseas ELP to accept. A minimum of ELP level 4 is required.

If you just want to fly privately there is a Special Pilot's Licence.

Hi Clintonb,
Why do you want a CASA licence if you are a British Citizen?
Do you have a job offer in Australia from an employer willing to sponsor you for a Class 457 Visa?

Thanks guys for the help. had a look at the CASA website, just do any of you guys know of a school in Oz that does license conversions, world traveler thanks for the link i contact that school unfortunately they've put that program on hold as they are busy with their other pilot programs.. Been researching on the net but cant find a school over there that does license conversion. Do any of you guys know if you can do distance learning and then go over there and do the written and flight exams, researched on the CASA website but couldn't find any regulations stating you cant do distance learning for a license conversion.

I read on the CASA website that you can still work in Australia if you just get your license validated, you don't have convert your license in order to be able to work as a pilot there.

whiskey1 yea friends got a small operation in the bush and he wants me to come over to help out.

Once again thanks for the help and anyone else who has some info would really appreciate it.

Safe flying

No formal training requirement, so Distance Learning or self study.
You will need access to all the Australian Documents, AIP, CAO, CAR and DAPS or Jepp.
Just get your mate to check he can sponsor you for a Class 457 visa. It is not automatic.
