Bournemouth Commercial Flight Training
Hi,
anyone here with them - or has been with them? What are they like, in terms of training and student support etc? |
Their training is of a high standard, and I gained first time passes in everything with them.
The thing I found during the research and ultimately my training, it's more about the instructor than the school. BCFT have some very good instructors, I went there and met them before I paid the deposit for any course, and was ultimately pleased with the end result. In terms of student support, this can vary slightly, depends which course you are on and who your instructor is, but I never felt let down or left out in any phase of my training. What course are you thinking of doing there? |
I went there last year. Nice honest staff, solid training, Bournemouth nightlife not bad, and the school has a social atmosphere. Lots of French guys so in the summer it can get like the Paris Metro, lol

Agree with both RTN and Zonda. I'm currently doing my CPL with them and all the staffs are easily approachable. Pretty laid back atmosphere whilst also achieving the proper training required. It doesn't feel like a sausage factory at all, if you know what I mean :ok:

I'm starting my jetline course in about 4 weeks time a so looking forward to it.
I researched a lot on different schools and i found good comments about BCFT their teaching quality. Visited them once and found it relaxed and friendly and based on these factors chose them over other school.. Hope Im right...;) |
Well I actually live near Bournemouth, so I'll be staying at home.
But if the instructors are good etc, then that's great. Bournemouth did have quite a few FTOs: PTC, Cabair, BCFT. |
Why not go and have a look around. Speak to Phil Lucas the ground school CGI or Mike Smart the Chief Pilot. 01202 599888. You will be able to sit in on a groundschool class or in the back of an aircraft on a training flight to get a feel of the place.

I am currently at BCFT finishing off my training...I was on the Kingston University course at Cabair (luckily at the university when they went bust, so thankfully didn't loose any money with them) and comparing the two, I am very impressed with BCFT, at least in my dealings with them so far. My instructor is great, very helpful and supportive and remains calm in the air all the time, he has only raised his voice once in the air, which I know depending on the student can be a good or a bad thing, for me, this has been a good thing! Even the senior management team come down to the briefing area and have a chat with the students and all the staff are very approachable and friendly. I would highly recommend them!

ShamilN,
PAT is still at Bournemouth (has been since 1993!). It was PFT which went bust a couple of years ago. Linda Mollison |
Was at SFT in late 20th century. It became bcft after Sept 11 and the previous owner went bust. Phil Lucas was an instructor at SFT. He's a solid bloke. If he's now running the show at bcft, it'll be no bad place.

I was at BCFT not so long ago and a coursemate and I are now in the very fortunate position of getting our hands on the A380.
Phil "it's a 3 Euro answer, not a 5 Euro answer" Lucas is a good guy and was a v helpful CGI at the time. I know a lot of the old names have left but I had a good experience there and can certainly recommend the groundschool there as I still use some of the manuals today to brush up for sims etc. Just make sure you ask Phil about the Black Sambuca to Gen Nav Instructor ratio and I'd be curious to know if he's still driving the scirocco! :ok: |
I rememeber Phil Lucas talking about Katabatic winds and Anabatic winds, and telling us how to remember which one goes up and which one comes down.
Something that has always stayed with me is when he said just think "up Anna" and made a very funny gesture. Great guy with a great personality, and a very dedicated professional. |
Thanks for the advice everyone: I went to see them last week, and yesterday was my first flight with them. So far, so good.
Now, the weather is blocking me. I come home to the best summer possible, don't I :/ |
