ATPL Numericals : Keuth Williams

Hi ....

Could someone please help me out with these 2 que's from Keith Williams. Is there a thumb rule or a particular formula to calculate to save time in the exam

(1) TAS = 290 , HDG (T) = 171 , w/v = 310/30. Calculate Drift and GS

(2) TAS = 375 , HDG (T) = 124 , w/v = 130/55. Calculate True Track & GS.

Thanx guys

You need a CRP-5 !

.....and know how to use it.

Your service provider should teach this as part of the course.

This type of question is intended to be solved using a CRP5 or similar device.

The retail price of a new CRP5 is quite high, but many candidates resell them after the exams. So it should be possible to obtain one for little more than half of the retail price. If you then sell it after you have completed your exams, the overall cost to you will be quite small.

Both the "1000 QA&E For General Navigation" book and the "Mastering Mathematics for ATPL" CD, provide step-by-step solutions to these problems using the CRP5.

Although it is possible to carry out the calculations mathematically, or by drawing a scale diagram, both of these methods are more complex and time-consuming than using the CRP5.
