How do I keep my MEP/IR Valid?

Hi there,

I am about to undertake a Type Rating on the NG. Can anyone please advise me on whether my SPA MEP Class Rating & IR will renew on completion of this type rating?

If not, I am keen to know what requirements are involved to keep these valid as understanding lasors is like gobbledee gook & I am getting conflicting info from CAA.

Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry, but go back to Lasors, read it slowly, its not gobblydegook it all seems pretty clear and you will feel much better having understood it your self rather than being spoonfed the answer.

If the answer was clear, I wouldn't be posing the question. Don't talk to me about being spoon-fed dumbass.

Well how would a Multi crew type rating have anything to do with any single crew rating or for that matter a jet type rating on a multi engine piston class rating?

Lasors has everything in quite plain terms spelled out for you. The only reason why you might think it isn't clear is because it isn't telling you the answer you would like.

ie the NG rating has nothing to do with your MEP class or SPA IR having it gives you no rights what ever to fly anything else apart from a 737 NG. Although the LSt can be used as you 1 hour with an instructor for the purpose of renewing your SEP class by experence.

And elements of the LST/LPC can be cross credited to your SPA IR, but only provided you've also made approaches in a SPA aircraft relevant to your IR. Still won't give you a MEP in any way - a MET test won't help your MEP, especially if MPA. LASORS has all this...

I think it can only be cross credited over to a SPA SEP IR not for the MEP.

Page 240 of LASORS :) also what the OP needs to read.

Thank you for your help

Here is that part of the FCL that it is on about.

http://www.caa.co.uk/docs/175/Sectio...R-FCL%201_.pdf

Seems a bit daft to me. It misses out the limited panel UA stuff which is what the MPA doesn't get tested on. Its the bit I always have to work on for a SPA test. The rest of it flying stuff is just the same.

I suspect the spirit of the law is that experienced GA pilots - ie the self improver route - could keep their IRs current at a sensible cost, albeit still having to complete the CR items. However, most of the ones I know who could do it that way still do a full test anyway, since many of the CR items can be combined with the IRR.

I don't know anyone who has kept the MEP side of things valid after going MPA. There are a couple that keep a SEP IR going. And a few of us that try and keep a IMC valid.

I know a fair few through work. Most are specialist though, eg one's a GV TRI/TRE and also FIC Instructor, CRE/IRR, etc... And also a real pleasure to fly with, the smug git!
