CTC thoughts, Modular and Age considerations

Hi everyone,

I'd like to start by saying I've read loads of posts regarding these topics and they are all very informative and helpful! - but I was hoping to get some specific replies to my questions if possible.

I'm 28 - I currently have very little flying experience but I'm preparing for my phase 2/3 of the selection process for the CTC wings cadet program.

1. Firstly I wanted to talk about CTC, I've read lots about them on this forum, obviously the cost of their training is a downside compared to the modular route: however the advantage with the CTC is their integrated training and excellent facilities, together with the partnerships they have with the airlines, on the flip side I have heard about their holding pools, pilots going bankrupt, instructors leaving and rumors of Easyjet not being happy with them lately. There's also a post about 'slavery contracts.' From my research I have found that Easyjet have filled all pilot vacancies for 2011, and that they expansion is set to finish in 2013 (when I would finish training). BA - "We are currently recruiting British Airways Pilots through our Direct Entry Pilot Scheme only". With the CTC I'd also have to pay my own Type rating (25k airbus) -- So I guess my question is: How good is it now to train with CTC?

2. My age (currently 28 and a half) - I've heard that Ryan Air has an internal policy not to employ FO's over the age of 30, is this a common policy for airlines? - I've also seen posts with pilots in there 40's who have changed careers and seem to be doing OK.

3. I'm also considering the modular route, unfortunately Plymouth airport is set to close by the end of 2011, so I'm guessing that Exeter would be the next best choice that would allow me to continue working and training - has anyone gone this route?

Thanks in advance, I still need to pass my medical class 1 before I know that there's no reason why I can't make this dream a reality...
