Pros and cons of being a pilot??
the job scene seems extremely bad..family against your dream to fly..a hell lot of money goes into the training.....is the risk worth it??

Depends on how much you gamble.
Do your research, weigh up what you value, then decide. For me, it paid off. However, the price (and I don't mean financial necessarily) was pretty high. |
the problem is in a "normal" job you can expect 2-3 offers a year, and get a job within 6 months.
in aviation, you can expect one interview every 2 years, and not be succesfull. How many guys are here after 2 years, 3 years, and have not flown 1 hour? thousand. I know many guys now who are still jobless after 2 years(guys with over 3000h), and the situation doesn't seem to go better. After 40, you are out, after 50, you are finished! at 30, they don't want you , no experience on jet...now even a capt on 330, can not find a job on the 320 if he doesn't have 500-1000h on type. it's patetic! watch at my other post, if I sound negative to you, it' s because I know how it is. been there for 30 years, and now I am totally sick of it. It's all about politic, money, and BS. no, not worth it!!!:ugh: 30 years ago, probably yes, 20 years ago ok, 10 years ago you needed luck, now you need money to pay your boss! forget about salary, nobody will pay you as long idiots pay to fly! and everyday I receive CVs from these monkeys! go for it, if you have the cash, and finish miserable like the tousand of dreamers who are still looking for their first job! The situation may improve when the big airlines will start to hire(BA/KLM,airlines in the USA...). If I was you, I would not gamble my money as long the doors are closed. |
I survived because my family supported me all the way. Infact the cost to find work was equal if not more than the cost of training

does a fresh cpl holder stand any chance to find a job in today's market scene??

does a fresh cpl holder stand any chance to find a job in today's market scene?? If your CPL has 50 hours of float, in addition to ski and tail wheel experience, it would be ok for a float/bush job, depending the country. If your CPL has a flight instructor rating, with previous glider instructor experience, it should be ok to find your first instructor job. If with your CPL you have 3000 hours captain multi crew time, it should be fine to get an airline job. If you CPL has crop pilot training, it should be fine to find a job, depending on the country. If you already work on the ramp with some hiring airline company (depending which), it should be fine to expect a job. First you find your path to get your job, they you do your training according to this path. Too many pilots first get an expensive useless CPL without relevant experience, and after think about the job issue when their money and options have desapeared. It's just wrong, most of the time. |
Work your way up into seniority and it will be a dream job.
You fly 3-4 long distance routes a months and rest of the time you are free. But if you dont really dream about being a pilot, working as a pilot - this job is prob. not for you. |
To be very, very honest. If you still haven't thought/set/asked a question about the appropriate path, plus if you ask around is becoming pilot worth it or not, my advice would be to consider an other career. Not worth it.
This career is for people getting to the point, this is not an easy career. If you want to get married (what a challenge), you get married, you don't ask around wether it's worth it. Kind of the same applies here, basically. Just to be understood: I compare airplanes to marriage, not to women of course! |
Work your way up into seniority and it will be a dream job. Get to the top, and then come back talk about it. |
Its not Worth spending Money with the Risk involved unless you are rich....
