I'd recommend staying at the ibis on the airport which should cost around 50 pounds plus 7 for a rather nice buffet breakfast. Aviation house is around a ten minute taxi ride which cost me £6

Gatwick Hotels With Parking | Springwood Guesthouse Gatwick Hotel Accommodation

They have free Internet and breakfast, give free rides to the exams, and there are plenty other guys taking the exams who stay there. Ask for room #1 if avbl

i've been doing the same

I've been doing the same for the passed few CPL sittings and have been using Hotwire.com and requesting hotels in the Gatwick area and have had some crazy results. I got a 5star hotel there for 22quid per night the last time.(The breakfast was more expensive than the room per night !!)
I've done the same for this next set of CPL exams in July and got the holiday inn Gatwick for 30 pounds per night.
Well worth a go.

Premier Inn Manor Royal. About £35 a night, brand new, breakfast nice and not expensive, and it's a 3 min drive or 15 min walk from CAA.

I've just spent 2 nights at the (new) Travelodge Gatwick Central, next to the Best Western Moat House. It's the old Mercure, and at £19 a night no cause for complaint.

Had it been £40 a night I would have complained. The place has a tatty run-down air about it. The first room I was allocated had a seized lock so the door could not be closed, let alone locked. All the unoccupied rooms on my floor had the doors open, which makes one wonder about security. My next room stank of stale smoke and lack of fresh air, despite having a window that opened (with difficulty due to a rusting frame). The bathroom had several towels and a tiny square of soap, nothing else. Still, at least there was no cockroach in the bidet!

They are obviously doing much needed renovations, and the drilling and hammering on the floor above me started at 0730.

When I went back to my room in the evening, it had not been cleaned.

Even for £19 a night, I expect better from a chain like Travelodge. One thing I must say though is that the staff are really helpful and friendly, also there's a nice pub within walking distance (the Old Six Bells), and transport to/from the airport.

Next week I'm staying at the Regency, about £40 a night, it looks like a well run comfortable old fashioned place, in the middle of nowhere down a country lane.

I'd agree with the Premier Inn Manor Royal. Because you can take a back road to the CAA, there's less chance of being held up in rush hour traffic and, if the worst came to the worst, you could walk.

Cape

Was down that way last week and only realised it had changed brands, the website says lots of work going on for a refurb and starting from 7.30 so least they honest.

6 Bells is (in)famous for their murdering chef.

Anybody interested in Motor racing there is a Wetherspoons pub in Horley called The Jack Fairman, Jack Fairman - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Its beside Waitrose.

Cape, please let me know if the Regency is well run and comfortable after you have stayed there!:E

Check out the B&B's in Horley, it's 2 mins from LGW, there must be loads!

Capetonian 17th Jun 2011 08:59

There are loads of B&Bs in Horley. If you walk along Massets Road, every second house is a B&B.
