Airways flying
quick question.
flying "airways" (IFR), in the UK and France single made crew, is it an requirement to have an ADF? I cannot find out this information and would be great full if any one knows the correct answer.. |
ANO (CAP393, free from the CAA website) Section 1, Schedule 5 will give you the formal answer for the UK, last time I looked Eurocontrol gave easy access to all the national rules/regs for the French (& onwards) sides.

Thank you for the reply.
I have had a quick look in ANO (CAP393, free from the CAA website), but couldn't find anything on ADF requirements. I have had a look at the "Eurocontrol" website and have been unable to find any thing on ADF requirements, flying in controlled airspace. |
I have had a quick look in ANO (CAP393, free from the CAA website), but couldn't find anything on ADF requirements. It's been a while since I've had to look for the French/other European requirements I'm afraid, last trip was with a G1000 with a fair bit of certified nav kit! |
The aircraft I plan to fly to France in is either a DA40 or DA42, which has a G1000.
The aircraft has the correct number of altimeters and HSI/ CDI to fly airways in. But the DA40 does not have a ADF!!! The aerodrome which I will fly out from in the UK does have a NDB situated onsite. |
In the UK you most definitely need an ADF still even though your approach may not be a non precision one. In Germany you only need it for the obvious (a NPA).
These links might help: ADF/DME Carriage Requirements AGAIN [Archive] - PPRuNe Forums IFR Flying in Europe Search for key word ADF. The referenced Eurocontrol documents no longer exist at those locations though. |
