A famous wannabee

Hi guys.. I am probaly going to be ripped to sheads for saying this but..

My favorate band is the backstreet boys, as I was peering though there web site I noticed this..

[quote]

Backstreet Boys Fly High

Kevin Richardson (29) and AJ McLean (22), singers with world-breaking pop sensation Backstreet Boys, astounded fellow passengers on their privately hired jet, when they both took control of the 767 during their 100 hour world tour.

Richardson is a budding amateur pilot who has taken a couple of flying lessons in the past and aims to gain a full license. "I fell in love with planes when I as six,' he confided. "A friend''s dad took us up in his two engine plane and I can remember feeling over-awed by the whole sensation. I still have an image of looking down and seeing my mum waving at me from the back yard."

Richardson describes flying as "a feeling of freedom" and spent the majority of all take offs and landings seated in the cockpit of the luxury jet. McLean on the other hand overcame a fear of heights to take his place in the captain's seat. "It's true I'm really scared of heights," he said after his achievement during the Rio de Janeiro to New York leg of the 26,000 trip to launch the group's new album Black & Blue. "But I did it all the same," he added excitedly. "I flew the plane!"

Band mate Brian Littrell joked that had he known McLean was momentarily in charge of the plane he would have taken precautionary safety measures. "I'd have packed myself a parachute if I'd know what AJ was up to," he quipped.

The award wining band, credited for selling an incredible total of 51 million plus albums in just four years, today completed their six continent dash. The trip has been hailed a 100% success as record numbers of fans turned out to greet the five singers in each stop along the way.

Looks like we have another budding singing pilot amongst us!

The backstreet boys. I thought they would be more interested in becoming stewardesses!

Is there not something illegal about letting somebody control an aircraft without a licence?? Especially in these current days...

mickey mouse 20th Jan 2002 21:20

Bl***y HELL!
Presuming this is a true story, as far as I am aware it is illegal to let unqualified pilots take control! I think the only way that that can be done is if the Pilot in command is a FULLY qualified instructor, and even then it might not be allowed....

There is nothing illegal about that! If the pilot in command (of any aeroplane) believes the person is capable to take control of the aeroplane it is perfectly acceptable. Further the PIC does not need to be an instructor/training capt.

The only thing that should be illegal is to let the Backstreet Boys anywhere near your aeroplane in the first place!!

okay well I have checked this out and.....

The pilot in command can let any person take the controls as long as the pilot is asured of the following..

1. The person is sound of mind
2. Capable
3. Under full supervision
4. There is no paying passenger or any redemation making staff (i.e F.A.)

..... Yeah ATPL air law eat ya heart out.. thats one exam passed! yahooooo. :)

SUPERTED, you are having a laugh. Do you operate aircraft? If so, you would surely know that what you said is complete and utter crap. Suggest you go back to keeping your eye on young children whilst they are in bed.

SuperTed 21st Jan 2002 03:05

There looks to be another Backstreet Boy here! Enlighten me, what part was 'utter crap'?

Cheshire Cat: other than mis-spelling favourite, you forgot to post a picture so we can assert if you're a cat or a dog.

[posting whilst p1ssed, might well delete in the morn...]

Blackshirt,

Other than misspelling "misspelling", you forgot to mention whether your crass remark was also found in your Giddeon's Bible.....

Ace Rimmer 22nd Jan 2002 13:51

Erm, Gideon is spelt with one 'd' - trust me on this - unless it was intentional in which case I'll shut up
