First Nav Solo
Hey all,
I should hopefully be going on my first navigation solo next week provided the weather is good. Does anyone have any tips or things to avoid from their past experience? Even just funny anecdotes for me to remember would be helpful. Thanks -Liam |
Trust your stopwatch!
When planning, make sure low lying sun/ground mist/cloud reflection won't be an issue.
While flying your chariot of choice perfectly... Synchronise your DI with your standby when airborne. Start from the assigned point. Start your stopwatch. Establish and maintain the correct heading. Your work cycle will bring you back to your stopwatch within three minutes showing off track trend. This enables you to plan getting back on track with drift allowance before the halfway point and to track beautifully to your destination. Trust your stopwatch! Whatever illusions/distortions you get through the windscreen, you will never be too far off track; if in doubt, get confirmation from the RADAR service that you will have negotiated. Trust your stopwatch! Enjoy it - a great deal of satisfaction from a job well done. Oh - and did I mention... Trust your stopwatch - your eyes lookout, your stopwatch navigates. |
Make sure you record a video for a minute or so ..trust me, u will love it when u see it after few years and while recording make sure u maintain a good lookout ! :ok:
