Don't you have to do IRs in the airspace of that country i.e. US for FAA and Europe for JAA?

Cheers

Nope, FAA IR can be done anywhere in the world as long as you can find an FAA examiner or DPE. That is usually the problem, prior to 2005 DPE's did visit the UK by invitation to conduct tests but the canditate had to pay all costs plus a huge test fee ontop.

It's not worth the hassle anymore, just bite the bullet and go to the States. I managed the Multi IR in 3 weeks, just...

Hi

Try Bonus at Cranfield. There may be someone there that can help.

You can also try Humberside as they are very knowledgable about this.

I did a bit of research into this myself. The training for the FAA IR seems possible in the UK but unfortunately it looks like the only feasable option for the flight test is a trip to the US. There was a UK / France based examiner (Contact Me) but I dont know if he is still operating.

I've since decided to save up the pennies and go for the JAA IR next year.
