Question about ATPL written "sittings"
 

I am studying to take my written exams and will be sitting the exam in Malaysia. I understand that I am allowed to have a max of 6 "sits" but my question is what constitutes a "sitting"? The 14 exams are spread over 4 days so if i sit 2 exams on the Monday and 2 on Wednesday, is that considered 1 sit or 2? I am assuming that it only counts as one but I just want to make sure.

you assume correctly.

A sitting is the four days the exams are conducted over.
If you take one exam or all 14 over the four days it is a single sitting.
Sitting in KL, Are you the holder of an ATPL?

Yes I am doing a conversion from a Japanese ATPL to JAA. Just out of curiosity, do you have to already hold an ATPL to sit there?

The only requirement to sit ATPL exams is that you have a PPL licence and of course have or have had a FIRST class medical issued.

I recall a chap who was from the USA and wanted to convert his licence. Same thing for that fellow, need a PPL to sit them.

That is my experience but am sure someone will come along and point that out.

You don't need a Class 1 medical to sit the exams; might be daft not to have one but it's not a requirement.

Also, you don't need a PPL to sit ATPL exams if you are on an integrated course ('cos you never get a PPL) or if you hold an ICAO CPL or above (since these licences are deemed to have PPL privileges).

No You don't have to hold an ATPL to sit there. Just if you don't hold an ATPL you must complete approved Ground school and I don't think that there are any approved Ground schools in Malaysia.

Maximum four attempts per any one subject...

Not that it SHOULD take you four to pass any, but I recall a few guys I did my ATPLs with worrying that they might not be able to get the maximum number of 4 attempts at G.Nav before their 6 sittings ran out!!! You have to be quite tactical - or just pass em all first time :ok:
