Cheapest JAA FROZEN ATPL(A)

Where can I obtain the cheapest JAA Frozen ATPL(A) in the UK and at what cost?

if you aren't biased, modulair would be the cheapest way, this would mean that you might have to change from time to time as some modules might be cheaper in different FTO's. PPL, timebuild, IFR and night VFR can all be done before ATPL theory i.e. outside a FTO ( with the proper theory done of course ).

Go modular. It will roughly cost you about 50K.

Choose a school which specialises in most of the courses that you need for the ATPL, don't keep changing schools, 7 school wouldn't look good on your CV, maximum about 3.

Good luck, PM if you want.

Unless you have a job waiting for you at the end of your training don`t go integrated. Going modular is not just much cheaper over all, but if you are really clever you can get most of the hour building for free. PPL+CPL will not cost you more than 10k. ME/IR will set you back less than 15k. A distant learning ATPL course plus MCC will be less than 5k. Add to this the license fees, various bits of plastics and you get a rough idea of the total cost. Of course excluding living expenses and extra sittings. And you also have to do quite a bit of reaserch to get those kind of prices. And you also have to bargain quite a lot. Many FTOs will drop the price by some margine if you know how to approach them.
Best of luck.

Ah yes, but building the 100hrs from completing your PPL to becoming eligible to start your CPL will cost you another 10k..... And if done in the UK both instances of £10k are highly underestimated.

but building the 100hrs from completing your PPL
As i said if you are really smart and creative you can get 100 hours to your tt for no more than 2k.
I know a place who can get you a ppl with a night rating for 5k. CPL can be less than 5k if look hard. But getting this kind of low prices will involve bargaining almost to the point of begging. But nevertheless it can be done. FTOs are hit by the recession just as hard as everyone else is, and the prices will drop to attract more costumers.

100hrs for £2k? That's £20/hr.

You can't hour-build on a Flexwing you know :ugh:

I did my CPL stuff in my own aircraft, so minimal expense for a well kitted-out aircraft and a little bartering on instructor rate. I'm sure you'll be happy to enlighten our forum colleagues to whichever establishments are offering such great value in the UK....

Highland flying school offers ppl training for £4600 with night rating ant £490. If you pay for both as a bundle and you bargain they will drop £90 and round it off at £5000.
Getting a CPL round £5000 is really not that hard.

That's £20/hr.
There are quite a few places that offer hour building in the form of para-dropping/glider towing for £0/hr. I know that this is hard to come by, but it is out there, so there is the possibility. But a more realistic example is buying a share in a small a/c. They are quite cheap but the price is irrelevant as you will get your money back when you sell the share. The running costs will then be around £60-£80/hr. Divide £80 to 4 ( presumably the a/c has 4 seats) and that gives you £20/hr. That involves having a lot of friends who want to fly for £20/hr.
I know in the real world it never really works as you plan, but if you try really really really hard you can do it.

That's way too expensive for a Parker. It must be a Montblanc.

Excuse me, they let you do this with only 40-50 hours total experience!!!

acuba 290 9th Jan 2009 12:45

if you need cheapest JAA, why you want to do it in UK?

chrisbl 9th Jan 2009 12:49

For Glider towing it is usual to have at least a Silver C level certificate.
