CABAIR -am i doing the right thing??!!

Hey there

I am looking for some help and advice and real opinions from ex students of CABAIR at Cranwell on the inegrated course. Basically I read a really long thread on here that completely slags off the school in many ways from numerous different people. I am due to start on the july 3rd intake.

I am now really worried that that the school I worked so hard to get into and have pledged so much money to are not as good as I had thought. Through the research I have done, they seemed like a fantastic place to get my ATPL, and one of the industry leaders. However, I'm now worried that I should go somewhere else to improve my chances of completing the course and for employment at the end.

I realise that people often have different experiences, but I would like to hear some positive reviews and opinions and experiences and successes (if there are any), from ex or current students to reinstill the confidence I need that I'm doing the right thing and should keep my place at CABAIR in july.

Or indeed if most people whi read this do think it's not such a great school, then please let me know.

Thanks very much and I appreciate any comments in reply to this thread

Cheers

Cabair Cranwell?? You might get some funny looks if you turn up at the Guardroom at Cranners, saying you're there for ATPL training... :E

Frankly Mr Shankly 26th Nov 2008 12:59

Blimey the RAF must be on it's uppers then letting Cabair in....:)

The joys of sitting at home on Pprune, bored and waiting for the 1725 report FMS! ;)

Haha, oh the glamour. At least you've got a relief from the boredom, this is my second standby day on the trot, I've already done the ironing! Rock n roll!!! :)

Cabair at Cranfield is good and the training is to a high standard.. the problem at the moment is the market, there is very little out there so Cabair can do very little to help, they are however still sending people to a few airlines for interviews, for the holding pool at the moment due current climate.... all the different schools get their slagging on this site and all have good and bad points... i finished at Cabair around 3 months ago.. i would personally recommend them from my personal experience.. i have many friends who went there who would not agree... what can be said is the training is great.. the job help is not so great and made much worse by current climate..

Cabair at Cranditz - LOL!

Apparently 41% of their grads end up at British Airways - no worries then.

cheers

Thanks very much for the advice skywalking. I appreciate it.

To streety, I don't get why you were taking the mick. What did I say? I'm basically on the 1st officer direct JAA ATPL Integrated Course at cranwell, which if I'm not mistaken gets you a frozen ATPL at the end?

Please inform me if I'm wrong

Also, anymore feedback on CABAIR would be much apprecaited.

Thanks

I think your mistaking Cranwell for Cranfield

Cranwell is an RAF base and there is no cabair there, there is however a cabair at Cranfield.

Well that's what i think everyone means

CABAIR at Cranfield (EGTC)..................civvie
RAFAIR at Cranwell (EGYD)...............not civvie

Frankly Mr Shankly 27th Nov 2008 18:05

Sorry NC if we have detracted from your question, only a bit of fun, couldn't resist. Hope it all goes well. :)

PilotNC 27th Nov 2008 18:10

sorry!!

Oh my god, how embarrassing!! Of course I knew I was at Cranfield, no idea why I kept writing Cranwell, but obviously I see the joke now!! lol

Apologies guys

Yeah, I was at bloody Cranfield only last week for my assessments! :O

No worries fella. Good luck with it. Make sure you study hard in the Nav lessons though... ;)

Oxfords better but more expensive I believe, I finished in there in 01.

Its basically like comparing an old Polytechnic to a Red brick uni I suppose, once you've got a job no-one really cares.

Enjoy the sausage machine x

Cabair are pretty good generally. Odd niggle here and there but nothing major and certainly nothing more than any other FTO around. I'm on Modular rather than Integrated so can't comment on that side of it but other than a few small issues here and there i'm happy with them. Every flight school has good and bad points...... the best piece of advice I could impart would be to pick an FTO that you like and get on with. You could go to the best school in the world but not like the place and end up not getting the best out of it. You're spending some serious wadge mate so pick whats best for YOU, no-one else. Also just as a side note, given the state of the economy its a good time to batter the FTO's down on price so make sure you haggle with whoever you pick.

Good luck fella :ok:

Cabair

PNC

You may wish to review whom you spend your money with. I am at Cabair just about to do PT3 however 4 out of 15 DA40's are serviceable.

Its starting to get bad as the wx is poor, instructors are in talks for redundency, and que to fly gets longer. God knows how long it will take me to get on the twin.

Other than that the night life in MK and London is great. Accom is not too bad and it is central. Would hold off personally till things change.

I have no "inside track" but I'd be very careful paying large amounts up front, especially in light of what geordie says - the government won't be bailing Cabair out if it came to it.

SlingsbyT67M 29th Nov 2008 09:26

bad news

guys I have it on good authority that Cabair are on very shaky financial ground. They are unable to pay their debts and have creditors knocking down their doors. I personaly wouldn't go there although I now have my fATPL. I just don't want to see some poor new wannabee lose his 60K and his dream. Go into this one only after they have agreed to show you their balance books.

Flying Squid 29th Nov 2008 10:30

Can I be so bold as to ask where this info came from? I know the Integrated side is queit but I think the majority of the company is pretty stable, especially given the University contracts with Kingston and Bucks??? But then again I haven't seen what the Cabair P&L account or Balance Sheet looks like so if your 'source' has then he may well be right. :uhoh:
