Cats Atpl Online Distance Learning

I would like to take out the CATS DL Online course in future,

However I work offshore on oil rigs and because my company has expanded all over the world I sometimes am away for 5 weeks at a time.

I was wondering, is there a time limit to complete the course WITH CATS or is it 18 months you get with CATS after the first exam is taken or is it 18 months from when it is brought online or As much time as you like????

I am a bit concerned about this as I dont want to miss out on learning because of my offshore work.

Best regards

Richie

Hi,

I think its supposed to be 18 months from when you sign up.

When I spoke with them - I was told 9 months from sign up and then if I need more time - they will extend the license.

hope this helps.

thats not correct.

ALL the ATPL exams MUST be compleated within 18 months of sitting the first one. as far as the CAA are concerned there is no time limit for how long you take to learn the subjects, just sitting the exams. you could actualy buy the books for the course and compleatly finish the studying for all 14 exams without even having a ppl! only problem is you cannot sit the exams thats all.

Ask them! I know it's not CATS but AFT give you three years. I enrolled with them and shortly after, my father became terminally ill so I had to put studying on hold for 18 months - they honoured the course and fee and gave me updated notes.

You answered this question yourself in February here in response to a query from mb2ai.

Good link Alex. Very suspicious. What's going on?

Alex, man you need to get out more! - only joking! ;-)

I am assuming bluenose's question is specifically about CATS and access to their course.

As CATS are providing an online course without printed notes, if this online license is only valid for 9 months, then he would be stuffed.

Bluenose,

CATS offer online only and also a package with course notes.

Keep in mind that you can print off the notes (can be a pain but will save you £500!) and you continue as normal.

I would suspect the license for access to CATS online system will be as soon as you sign up. From what I have heard is it is 9 months, after which they can extend for a period but as this was not stated in writing, I am assuming it is discretionary. They also mentioned that they can sell additional time!

The 18 month rule will kick in from the date you sit your first exam.

If in doubt as suggested earlier give them a call....

Silly me, sorry. I thought it was a bit odd!

My contract with CATS for distance learning says 18 months. Give Stuart a call - I would imagine he'd be flexible. (Note, actually speaking to Stuart is easier said than done :ugh:)

As I know from experience - 5 weeks on an offshore rig is an ideal environment in which to study in your spare time without the distraction of the pub :ok:
