simple problem of loading to solve
 

1 guy can load a cargo plane in 2 hours, the second guy in 3 hours, and the 4th guy in 4 hours...

what s the time to load the plane if all guys work together?

3Hours I would say.

Pred, I don't think so.

First bloke (a) loads 1/2 a plane an hour
second bloke (b) loads 1/3 of a plane an hour
third bloke (c) loads 1/4 of a plane an hour.

Sooooo.

Lowest common denominator is 12

a = 6/12 per hour
b = 4/12 per hour
c = 3/12 per hour

So in one hour we have 13/12 planes loaded

Now, an hour divided by 13 = 4 minutes 37 seconds

and we only need 12 of those, so

It takes them, working as a team, assuming that each works at his normal rate, 55 minutes and 24 seconds.

What happened to the third guy?

The answer is two hours because you'd sack the other two for being lazy and unproductive.

Your soloution makes more sense than mine, I done it on the basis that each would take a turn at loading the aircraft rather than loading together.

Yes pred, I stated the necessary assumptions prior to my answer. It presumes that each works at his normal rate, and that there is no interaction. I would suggest that the true answer would be less than that, as we all know that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts!

You are all wrong, you fire all four of them, then you turn over the whole mess to Federal Express, they turn around in about 60 min. And they make a lot of money too. Or if its a Union shop you just let the first guy do it, and the other three just stand there and watch. Another problem solved from across the pond.

I couldn't give a toss as long as they do the job properly and I pushback on time. :cool:
