Trouble in Scotland
Word on the runway is that Tayflite’s two excellent CPL ME/IR instructors are both off to the airlines. (I say excellent ‘cos I’ve been taught by them).
Added to the fact that Tayside cannot find any instructors to get their highly publicised and expensive move into commercial instruction off the ground, is this the beginning of the end of commercial instruction in Scotland? Indeed, is the shortage of experienced commercial instructors going to leave only the integrated schools able to afford career instructors who are not prepared to work for less than they can get from the airlines? Good luck L & S!! Can we assume that the flight deck will authorise a couple of free cans for ex students? |
is this the beginning of the end of commercial instruction in Scotland? It was always ironic to me that there were hardly any commercial schools North of Manchester and the only two in Scotland are just 20miles away. |
Its an excellent new set up at Dundee, I was in past for a look recently. I hope it works for them, a lot of time and money has been invested to bring the MEIR and MCC online.
|
Finished my CPL training with Tayside at Dundee a few months ago and the training was excellent. The chief instructor is very good indeed and the facility will be great for MEIR and also MCC. At last somewhere in Scotland offering an MCC, although not quite online yet I understand.

Out of nosiness, where are L & S off to? Is it Scotland's only airline.........to the Islands?:}
|
My instructor, who does the MCC down at Northampton, was telling me he's currently in discussions with the MD at Tayside to become one of their instructors, he's faily experienced being ex-RAF instructor and a captain with a few older airlines.
I hope it's a success, it would be good to see more local training. |
Tayside and Tayflite are both operating. Tayside are doing CPL/MEIR and should soon be starting MCC on their new Alsim 200. Tayflite are still doing MEIR too, not sure about CPL though. Perth is still very much a CAA test centre, and the legend resident examiner - Mr DHH, is still going strong!!
As for ATPL's, I did hear through the local grapevine that GCNS had called it a day. Not sure if its official yet though. |
I don't think GCNS will have a major impact.
I believe their main problem is that they aren't as well known as the other schools (Bristol, Oxford etc) so competition is tight, Tayside and the likes get a good amount of local students coming through their doors and also cadets scholarships. |
anyone know if Mr Bledowski is still at dundee??
was taught by him and want to thank him but cannot seem to get in touch? |
Oh yes, he's still there! Getting a bit softer in his old age :E but going strong as ever. Try emailing the club or phoning - contact details on the website.

Is it true?
Is it true the GCNS are withdrawing their ATPL course. Scoured the web and can't find any info? Have sent them an email and will post the response...
