ATPL at Bournemouth
 

I am looking to start on the long haul to ATPL (F) and would prefer to initally train in Bournemouth (free lodging). There are several schools offering the course ( modular and quasi integrated ).
What is the experience / recommendations of you guys who have popped out the other end ?
Do I need to travel north ?:=

I'm coming down to Bournemouth to look around BCFT (http://www.bcft.org.uk) on Thursday - I've heard a lot of good things about a lot of commercial schools, I think its a case of taking a look around a few, seeing which one you think will extract the best of your ability (and fits into your budget), then knuckling down to some hard work..

EPTA are good for groundschool studies, i'm there just now, will be starting my third module next week. Reason I went for EPTA over BCFT, I preferred the 3 module approach. Can't fault my choice of provider.

Does EPTA do a full modular course. .... guess I better check out there website. I had only been looking at Cabair and BCFT. Visited both
Both have good and bad points, looking for advise from people who have been or currently using there services.... will check out EPTA

Heard they not so good when it comes to CPL / IR / MCC but only rumours no real facts.... admin seems a bit chaotic to me , but I sence the invoicing function works real good !!!:bored:

The flying side doesn't have the best of reputations but I think its back on its feet now...I'm not using them for my flight training! the ATPL theory side is operated by different staff to the flying side.

started at BCFT when i was 14 for my PPL. From there i took a few years out after school and decided to go back to do the full ATPL course. Since I have completed;

PPL
Night Rating
IMC
Multi Rating
Residential Ground School ATPL Exams
CPL
Multi IR
MCC
JOC
FIC

All exams were completed 1st time and also more importnatly in minimum time. Price wise i found to be the best around in the area, plus the help they give you along route in superb.

If you can pop round and chat to the guys here. They all pop out into town socially and have a good laugh to help your moral though the tought times :)

BCFT BCFT BCFT BCFT top school ,I have done everything up to my IR (which I start next week) there and have no complaints at all trust me you cannot go wrong there!

Have you considered Professional Air Training?

I've never heard a bad word said against them and I've also been told by one of the Bournemouth CAA examiners that PAT turn out a consistently high standard of pilot, the best on the airfield (his words)

Take a look at this thread to see previous comments and perhaps post a thread to see if anyone can confirm that the standard is still extremely high as my experiences are a couple of years out of date. (2005)

PAT are always willing to show people around and they have details of past students that are willing to be contacted to offer opinions of their recent experiences with PAT.

It's also worth saying that PAT have now relocated to new premises in the North West corner of the airfield.

Are there any threads that expland on your comments about the flying side of BCFT I liked the look of BCFT but am completely green :confused: . I apreciate that gossip can have many motives but all information is good information

I think his comments were aimed at EPTA not BCFT, quite a few people have transfered to BCFT from EPTA because of problems with the flight training.

Visit the schools. Ask questions. Speak to the current students. Lay out YOUR demands and how YOU would like your program set. Insist on your specific Instructor. People get unhappy with schools for many reasons, some justified, some not. Problems come and go with most schools, some unfortunately prevail. Current students can answer these questions.One should not base opinion on rumours, old reputations and disgruntled students or 'chip on shoulder' ex Instructors. Honesty, love, keeness, empathy AND the means to provide the training is what is needed and NOT mud throwing by other schools/students in order to secure YOUR business.

Finished with BCFT last year, all good from my point of view, now flying the Airbus, need I say more, and no I didn't self fund a type rating to pay for a job. Straight from BCFT to major UK carrier.
